Vitamin D Supplements in Breastfed Infants

Giving vitamin supplements to infants has been a controversial subject, but most physicians agree that breastfed infants should receive vitamin D supplements after two months of age  The natural way the human body receives vitamin D is by exposure to direct sunlight.  There a re many factors which may cause variation in the amount of vitamin D obtained.  The variables include skin color,  latitude, amount of time in direct sunlight and time of year.  The sunlight exposure must be direct and not though a window since the ultra-violet light is absorbed by the glass.
